Blooming and Growing
Peonies from my garden, originally uploaded by Gail Coulter.
Special friends have special wisdom – Karen said, “Perhaps you should think of it more as enlarging and expanding your world rather than leaving your old life for a new one? After all, the people who love you are still a part of your life. It’s only the place that has changed. New people and experiences will feed your growth and you will blossom even more.” – Karen S. is a special friend who I met in Baltimore when I worked in the D.C. area. I never would have met her if I hadn’t stepped out and accepted a new challenge. She’s finishing a Ph.D. in education. Karen H. is also a special friend who I met in Colorado Springs when I was at the university there. She was a director of curriculum and instruction in Colorado. I treasure her also. (Maybe it has something to do with the name “Karen.”). Anyway, these people will always be part of my life. So, maybe Karen S. is right. Maybe it is MORE about expanding and growing than it is about ‘leaving behind’, for certainly I haven’t left these fine friends behind even though I’ve moved to a different area. (I’ve tied a rope of friendship about them and I’m dragging them with me.)
